With a shutdown averted, President Obama and his Secret Service detail took a quick trip to visit tourists at the Lincoln Memorial.I caught this on the cover of the NY Times this morning and it made me smile, well at least in my mind, it was early and I don't think my face was up for it...

It spoke to me of the value of levity in the human spirit. That sometimes we just need to surprise one another with...surprises. Because as important as it is to spend time in meetings solving problems, we need even more so to find time to simply connect as humans and be. To smile and to give smiles...because when people are really smiling, if but for a moment, problems aren't really happening. And that's good for the soul.
